Community Learning Center Assistants/AMERICORPS

**Special Rate: $1,084/month for 10 months, plus Educational Award of $4,725.        Deadline to Apply: August 21, 2008              Four candidates will be employed by the Department of Public Instruction/Americorps program and be assigned to MSCR as the host agency. Positions are open to applicants 18 or older. The positions are full-time, temporary/10 months beginning September 9, 2008 and ending July 31, 2009. The assistant will develop, promote, implement and supervise a literacy/tutoring program in an elementary after-school program, provide one-on-one literacy tutoring during the school day and will plan & implement one family literacy event and two service learning projects. The assistant will also be responsible for the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteer literacy tutors and assist with other duties as needed. Safe Haven Afterschool Childcare Program Leaders & Assistant Site Supervisors

$9.45-11.45hr.               Sept 2, 08 – June 11, 2009

Part-time positions. Work with elementary school-age children daily in neighborhood centers and schools. Plan, supervise and implement activities such as art, science, sports, enrichment clubs, structured games, math & reading activities, playtime and fieldtrips. Programs start at 2:30 or 3:15 and end at 5:30 or 5:45 p.m. dependent upon the site. Fluency in Spanish and Hmong and experience working with elementary-age students are a plus. Assistant Site Supervisors are responsible for coordination and supervision of program and staff, administrative duties, behavior management and other duties as assigned. Community Learning Center Club Leaders (10) $10.40/hr. Oct. ‘08 – May ‘09

Afterschool Community Learning Center Club Leaders are needed to work with elementary–age youth beginning mid October. Hours vary by program but are generally between the hours of 1pm to 5:15 pm, Monday through Thursday in such clubs as LEGOS, arts & crafts, Cultures Around the World, Girl Scouts, cooking, sports, board games, Nature Nuts, dance, Spanish, etc. Staff can lead one club or several clubs and work from one to four days per week for fall semester or through May ’09, 18.5 hr maximum. Clubs usually take place one hour per week for eight to 14 weeks dependent on club and site. Paid planning time is given. Scheduling is flexible. Fluency in Spanish and Hmong and experience working with elementary-age youth are a plus. Many schools are on the bus line. Homework, Reading and Math Club Leaders & Academic Coordinators (25)

Facilitate learning activities to support and increase academic performance for children in grades 1-5. Clubs take place on Monday through Thursday and are 1 hour in length. Hours are between 2:15 pm-5:15 pm plus planning time (some sites don’t start until 3:00 pm). Most sites begin early October. Scheduling is flexible. Work with elementary school-age children daily after school in a neighborhood center.
