MSCR High School Program Office at:

REC–Recreation & Enrichment Centers
MSCR provides a variety of after school, evening and weekend recreation activities, educational opportunities and service opportunities for students and families. Any student may join a club for a $15 yearly fee or an extramural sport for $30 per sport. Scholarships are available, for more information contact MSCR or the REC Specialist at your school.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
A variety of special interest clubs are available at all MMSD high schools. Please contact the REC Specialist at your school for a list of available opportunities. Clubs run after school Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from school dismissal until approximately 5:15 depending on the bus routes. Clubs may include Youth Speaks Poetry, climbing, chess, skiing, hip-hop, comedy & improvisation and more! Clubs are based on student interest at each school. Additional fees may be charged for clubs that require an admission fee (i.e. rock climbing) or that are supply intensive (i.e. cooking).

Extramural teams practice one night a week and play games on Saturdays. These teams are specifically for non-WIAA participants. There are 2 different aged leagues as well as divisions by gender:

Students may register as an individual or a team.

JUNIOR LEADER JOB TRAINING PROGRAM-APPLY BY FEBRUARY 10, 2007!
Want to work with MSCR during the summer? Apply for this program! Successful applicants go through an extensive training program with MSCR, UW-Extension, Edgewood College, MATC and the UW. Upon successful completion of the training program, students are placed in a paid summer position within one of MSCR’s summer elementary programs. Applications are available at MSCR, as well as each high school’s guidance office beginning January 30, 2007. The deadline is February 10, 2007.



TEEN COMMUNITY CORPS• Summer Only
Seeking highly motivated youth to foster change in Dane County. Motivated to make a difference? Embrace a challenge? Want to boost your resume or college application with valuable service learning experience? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then become a member of the new Teen Community Corp, and work with other high school students who share your passion! Corp members are involved in an intense service learning experience focused on resolving global issues at a local level. Corp members leave the program with a better understanding of community resources, valuable job skills and documented service learning hours. This is a great opportunity for youth to develop their leadership and communication skills. Each week focuses on a different community agency and need. Projects may include outdoor physical labor, working with animals, teaching and mentoring children, and much more!
Criteria for participation: Must be able to actively engage in projects for several hours each day. Must follow directions, complete tasks, contribute suggestions and be cooperative team member. MSCR follows safety guidelines set by each partner agency. No program 7/4. Must be enrolled in high school for the fall 2007.


CAMP SUMMIT • Summer Only

Grade: 9-12. Challenge yourself to new heights! Test your skill and endurance through climbing, biking, kayaking, orienteering and tent camping. Camp Summit focuses on teaching technical and leadership skills through team and individual challenges. This is an active camp and participants should be prepared to be on the move! Campers meet at West High School each day before embarking on the day’s adventures. There is a two-night camping trip each session leaving Madison by 10 am Wednesday and returning Friday by 4 pm. Please be prepared to be active outdoors each day. Bring a sack lunch Monday – Wednesday. Dinner, breakfast and lunch provided for the overnight trips. Days & Times: Monday – Friday, 9 am-4 pm with the exception of overnight camping trips.


HIGH SCHOOL KICKBALL LEAGUE • Summer Only

Grades: 9-12. Kickball isn't just for kids anymore! Join the hottest "new" team sport sweeping the nation! Games are organized and follow league rules, however the emphasis is on fun, not competition. This is a league for students entering grades 9-12 only! Teams are coed. Register your team, or join the player pool as an individual looking for a team.
