What is the Meadowood Neighborhood Center?

MSCR has opened a pilot neighborhood center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison's southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide a safe, supervised place for youth during after school and evening hours, a place for neighbors to meet and socialize, a place for senior adult programs, a much needed space for neighborhood and other group meetings and space for MSCR programs such as art, fitness, yoga, after school programs, dance, etc.

Would you like to become a Meadowood Volunteer? We invite neighbors, students and any other interested party to apply to become a Meadowood Volunteer. Just print off and complete the MSCR Volunteer Application (click here)and return to the Center.

What's Happening at Meadowood Neighborhood Center?Spa Night

Meadowood Spa Night Is A Hit!

The recent Meadowood Spa Night for middle school girls was quite a hit-of course what's not to like about chocolate covered strawberries and getting a pedicure. All this was to begin discussing the importance of hygiene with our middle school girls. The night began with yummy treats, including delicious chocolate covered strawberries! The girls were then able to choose to be pampered with their choice of a facial, a manicure, or a pedicure. This was a new experience for many of the girls and they definitely enjoyed every minute of it! After a discussion on hygiene, everybody went home feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Introducing Men of Meadowood, Young Men's Group

The Meadowood Neighborhood Center is motivated to find new and innovative ways to engage the young men in the community. In the fall of 2010, a young men’s group was formed. Men of Meadowood consists of weekly programming, trips around the community, and helps the boys to experience opportunities outside of their immediate environment.

The program was founded and built on these principles:Men of Meadowood

The statement below is something that the young men came up with together and they recite it before the beginning of every gathering.

Statement of purpose:

We the Men of Meadowood through education, presence, and integrity uphold a standard. A standard that does not play into the stereotypes of African-American men, but a standard that enforces the truth that we have a purpose to serve; we must change to become better. We as young men represent a nation. Though we can not change the world, we can change ourselves.

The program’s goal is to show these young men that with opportunity anything is possible. This year we will be taking trips to the University Campus, exploring different businesses and other opportunities. Men of Meadowood

The program is led by MNC staff, Dareon Cartman. If you would like to contribute or collaborate with The Men of Meadowood please contact the center for ideas or contributions at: meadowood@madison.k12.wi.us
