Do you have a desire to get involved in your community and make a difference? MSCR has just the answer!


MSCR has a wide range of volunteer opportunities to fit various interests and availability. If you would like to find out more about which volunteer opportunities would work best for you, contact our Volunteer Supervisor, Don Bennett, at 204-4583. If you would like to get started with a volunteer placement please read the opportunities below and then follow these easy steps:

 

Current Volunteer Openings:


COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER (CLC) CLUB VOLUNTEERS:

Assist at school-based enrichment and recreation programs. Volunteers are able to tutor students in math or reading, assist with homework, help students with projects, lead an enrichment club or assist with sports activities and board games. CLC’s are located in many Madison elementary schools. We will work with your location preferences and schedules. Click here for detailed listing of sites and times.

Tuesday – Thursday Time available between 2:30 - 5:00p.m.



WATER WALKING VOLUNTEERS:

Provide socialization and guidance to people with disabilities during a water exercise program in warm water pool. Assist with personal care issues in the locker room as necessary. Program operation days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6:30-8:30PM. Contact Cheryl Dietrich at 204-3042 for information.


PONTOON BOAT DRIVERS AND FIRST MATES:

Do you love the lakes in Madison? Here is a great way to enjoy the water yourself and help others to have an opportunity to enjoy it! We need individuals to operate the MSCR fleet of pontoon boats for community drop-in and group reservations. Must enjoy being with people and being out on the lakes. Drivers will also assist participants with boarding, fitting life jackets and answering questions. Training requirements include boat safety course and MSCR pontoon orientation.


First Mates assist pontoon boat drivers to board boats, fit life jackets, welcome riders and ride along on the trip.

Volunteers work a 3-4 hour shift including ride time. Pontoon season is May-September. Must enjoy people and feel comfortable with boats and water. Must complete MSCR orientation and training. Call Chad Thom at 204-3020 for information.

 

DOWNHILL VOLUNTEER SKI INSTRUCTOR:

Volunteers assist lead staff with providing instruction to beginner and intermediate skiers or snow boarders, both with and without disabilities. Also assist with loading, unloading, and taking care of equipment. Must attend two hour orientation, and an all-day training at Devil’s Head Resort. Weekday & Weekend opportunities available in January & February. Contact Chad Thom at 204-3020 for more information.

 

SAFE HAVEN AFTER-SCHOOL CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS

The Safe Haven after-school programs provide recreation and enrichment opportunities for low-income, at-risk elementary school-aged children in the Madison Metropolitan School District. Safe Haven programs are located in elementary schools and neighborhood centers throughout the school district. Safe Haven offers a comprehensive structured program. Activities include art, science, sports, enrichment clubs, structured games, free play and field trips. Times range from 1:00-5:45p.m. on Mondays and 2:30 – 5:45p.m Tuesday-Friday. Volunteer orientation will be held on-site by site supervisors and will be conducted prior to your first date on the site. Contact Don Bennett at (608) 204-4583 for a listing of locations.

 

YOUTH RESOURCE CENTER ASSISTANTS:

Individuals to work with middle school aged youth in an after school setting to tutor students in after school homework clubs, facilitate and chaperone a variety of recreational, athletic and academic after school sports and clubs.
