Spring- Elementary Afterschool Academic Coordinator

Functions/ Job description:
Help make learning fun for our struggling learners!  Develop lesson plans that support, practice, reinforce, or extend school day content and skills through hands-on, engaging afterschool-style projects and activities.  Coordinators will plan for one or multiple groups and support program leaders with implementation of the lessons. Coordinators may also implement lesson plans dependent on the site.  Fantastic experience for those pursuing teaching or current/ former teachers looking for “out of the box” instructional opportunities.   Some bilingual Spanish positions available developing plans for Dual Language Immersion groups, as well.

Estimated start date: ASAP
Estimated end date: May or June 2018 depending on site

Hours of work: Coordinators needed M-F and T-F.  Program hours are approximately 12:45/1:30-5:30pm Mondays and 2:15/3:00-5:30) Tues.-Fri.  Exact days and required hours vary by site. 

Total hours of work per week: Work two to five days per week up to 18.5 hours

Location: Mendota Elem   

Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Experience and interest in working with children ages 5-12 from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with Common Core State Standards.
  • Understanding of inquiry-based learning and how literacy and math are taught in MMSD schools.
  • Objective-based lesson planning experience, preferably infusing academic subjects.

Desired qualifications:
Experience with elementary-aged youth preferred and ESL populations a plus.  Licensed teachers encouraged to apply.
