Flag Rugby Skills (Summer only)
Instructional, co-ed program designed to teach the basics of rugby sevens - a 2016 Olympic Sport. Rugby is a game rooted in sportsmanship and the skills apply to a variety of other sports. Children learn ball carrying, passing, catching, kicking, teamwork and spacing strategy. Instructors are from the Madison United Rugby Organization.
Developed by the National Alliance for Youth Sports, this program is designed to prepare children (ages 3-5) for organized sports, without the threat of competition or fear of getting hurt. Sports Skills focuses on a variety of general skills including: throwing, catching, kicking and batting. Children work with their parents to learn developmentally appropriate motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence.
Learn badminton and get game practice with an emphasis on court etiquette, sportsmanship, and fitness in a fun atmosphere! All skill levels are welcome. Beginners focus on fundamental skills including: correct and effective methods of hitting the shuttle, body position and movement, hand/eye coordination, rules and scoring. Intermediate and advanced participants practice skill refinement and game play including: overhead shots, clears, drops, smash returns, net drops, movement patterns, and game tactics. For grades 3-12.
Instructional, coed program designed to teach basic volleyball skills including the fundamentals of serving, bumping, passing, and spiking. Rules and game strategies are also covered. Each week children build upon what they learned to improve their skills, and play an instructional practice game at the last class. For grades 1-5.
Basketball Skills Clinic
Each week children focus on basketball skills, rules, team play, and sportsmanship and play an instructional practice game. For both boys and girls grades 1-5.
A great introduction to the sport of wrestling! Fundamental skills development covering various techniques of the basics of 'folkstyle' (National Federation of High School Associations rules) wrestling including: take-downs, escapes and reversals. Learn drilling and situations for beginners to the advanced wrestlers. The emphasis is on sportsmanship, team building, and fitness, with attention to individual wrestling moves and strategies. For grades K-8.
Folkstyle Wrestling Camp - Summer Only
La Follette High School Wrestling Coach Gary Skiles is the lead instructor in this introduction to ‘folkstyle’ or high school style of wrestling. Learn the basic fundamentals and techniques. For grades K-8.
Sports Skills T-Ball - Summer Only
A developmentally appropriate introductory baseball program for children ages 3-5. The program prepares children for organized T-Ball and baseball teaching skills in a non-threatening and non-competitive environment. Skills covered include running, batting, sliding, pitching and catching. Parents and children work together one-on-one in a fun atmosphere.
T-Ball - Summer Only
Instructional, coed program for children entering grades K-1. MSCR staff and volunteer adult coaches teach fundamental baseball skills, team play and sportsmanship. The first three evenings are team practices, followed by an instructional six game season. Practices/Games are approximately 1 hour, scheduled within the time frame listed. Coach Pitch - Summer Only
Instructional, coed program for children entering grades 2-3. MSCR staff and volunteer adult coaches lead an instructional baseball program that emphasizes fundamental skills, team play and sportsmanship.
