Summer Digital Media Specialty Program Leader – Summer 2025
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR operates the Meadowood Neighborhood Center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison’s southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide: a safe, supervised place for youth during after-school and evening hours; space for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness, and much more. This position will work directly with our youth after-school programs and may cross over into other program areas as needed or assigned.
Job Description & Duties:
The following duties are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned:
- Develop and facilitate digital media activities, projects, and events with youth.
- Supervision of participants using the center, specifically the youth.
- Plan, prepare and implement digital media activities and special events utilizing participant input with interest and enthusiasm.
- Complete and facilitate lesson plans for various age groups ranging K – 12th grade.
- Communicate with participants in an age-appropriate, relaxed and respectful manner.
- Know the location of all participants at all times; be aware of the youth activity. Know what is happening at the center.
- Educate participants and encourage rules consistently.
- Encourage the development of autonomy, self-regulation, and respect for self and others.
- Maintain professionalism and respect for participants when managing behavior, serve as a role model in both interactions and behavior.
- Anticipate problems and redirect participants before problems occur.
- Inform the Youth Program Director and Assistant Director of your daily activity plans.
- Seek approval and support from supervisors when planning special events or activities outside of the normal schedule and locations.
- Communicate and function as a team with all staff at the center professionally.
- Greet all users at the center in a positive manner.
- Communicate concerns to supervisors constructively and respectfully
- Attend staff meetings, trainings/in-services as required
- Contribute positively to the center.

- Hours a Week:
35 hours/week
- Work Hours:
Mon – Fri 11am – 6pm and/or Tues – Thurs 6pm – 8:15pm
- Pay Rate:
$16.00/hour
- Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (high school student exempt from this).
- Experience working with children, families and youth.
- Experience producing and working with digital media (sound recording, audio and video editing, graphic design, 3D printing etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with racially and culturally diverse youth, staff, parents, business owners, school staff and the community.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to perform when confronted with emergency, unusual and/or crisis situations
- Experience working, volunteering or attending community programs.
- Bilingual (Spanish/Hmong/ASL).
