MSCR Meadowood Neighborhood Center & MSCR Afterschool to Host A Series of Black History Month Events
Madison, WI – Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is proud to announce a vibrant lineup of free public events in celebration of Black History Month. From soul food dinners to youth-led showcases, MSCR invites the Madison community to honor the past and invest in the future through a series of culturally rich, family-friendly experiences at the Meadowood Neighborhood Center and the two MSCR Afterschool sites.
Meadowood Black History Month Events:
The MSCR Meadowood Neighborhood Center, 5740 Raymond Rd, is hosting a variety of free and exciting events in honor of Black History Month. These inspiring events are open to the public.
“This year’s celebrations at Meadowood focus on the holistic experience—honoring the past through education and supporting our future through wellness,” said A’Kia Croom-Ausler, MSCR Meadowood Neighborhood Center Assistant Director. “Events like the Black History Month Fashion Show and our student-led afterschool presentations allow us to invest in our community’s health and knowledge, while our soul food dinner provides the perfect opportunity for joy and connection.”
- Fashion Show & Pop-up – Friday, February 20, 5-7pm – Ages 18+.
Features Black fashions of various decades modeled by Meadowood staff. Enjoy snacks and learn about different multicultural resources. - BHM Community Celebration & Soul Food Dinner – Friday, February 27, 5-6:30pm
Close out the month of celebrations with performances by the MSCR afterschool participants and community members while enjoying a soul food meal together.

- Black Joy Matters at Toki Middle School, (Toki neighborhood) – Thursday, February 19, 4:30-7pm, 5606 Russett Rd
Co-coordinated by Toki Middle School & MSCR Afterschool
Enjoy arts & crafts, spades & card games, face painting, double dutch, barber haircuts, Kahoot Trivia at 5:30pm & food. - Let’s Stay Together (Northside neighborhood) – Friday, March 6, 5-7:30pm at East High School, 2222 E Washington Ave

A celebration of Black Excellence & Community – Black Excellence highlights, soul food, fashion show & youth performances.
Sponsored by Friends of MSCR, East High School, Dane County, Willy Street Co-op, Pa’ Pa’s BBQ & Beautician Division.
MSCR operates the Meadowood Neighborhood Center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison’s southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide a safe, supervised place for youth during afterschool and evening hours, for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness and much more.
