The public is invited to view youth-led lake conservation projects and learn about MSCR Girls Inc. programs on Thursday, August 13, from 5:30-7pm at Brittingham Park, 829 W Washington Ave.

The free public event marks the culmination of a summer program where local youth explored Madison’s lakes and took a hands-on approach to environmental stewardship. As part of the evening’s activities, MSCR Clay on the Move will provide free clay building activities and enjoy free refreshments.

Throughout the summer, participants in the Madison Metropolitan School District’s MSCR Girls Inc. program investigated three major ecological threats to local waters: phosphorus and algae blooms, stormwater runoff and pollution and invasive species. Each cohort developed a final project offering practical solutions for community lake care.

According to Leslie Smith, MSCR Girls Inc. Coordinator, “These outdoor education programs are tailored for girls to build curiosity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields while fostering leadership skills and community connection.”

Girls Inc. is an international organization dedicated to inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold. Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) serves as the public recreation department for the Madison community. Learn more at mscr.org
