MSCR is Celebrating Active Aging Month with a variety of Free Activities for Adults

MADISON, Wis. — Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR)  is celebrating Active Aging Month this October by offering a variety of free fitness, enrichment and social activities for adults ages 50 and older.

Registration opens at noon on Monday, September 21, for both Madison Metropolitan School District residents and nonresidents online at mscr.org or in person at any MSCR facility during operating hours.

Running October 1–31, the Active Aging challenge encourages participants to complete daily activities and weekend challenges for a chance to win prizes. Current MSCR participants are encouraged to share the schedule with friends, family and neighbors.

Program offerings include:

  • Physical Fitness: Dance Yoga Flow, Cardio Drumming, Travel Fitness Party, Aqua Exercise and Nordic Pole Walking.

  • Brain Health & Creativity: Wood-burning Coaster Crafting and a Memoir Writing Workshop.

  • Seasonal Activities: Fall Birding Basics and a Halloween Fitness Party.

Classes take place across several locations, including MSCR East, MSCR Central, MSCR West and local parks and pools.

“Getting older doesn’t mean slowing down or sitting on the sidelines,” said Mindy Vinje, MSCR 50+ fitness specialist. “Active older adults serve as a great reminder that there are plenty of ways to stay involved, learn new things and support overall health and wellness at every age.”

The complete schedule for all these events is available at mscr.org.  Contact Mindy Vinje at mjvinje@madison.k12.wi.us or 608-204-3000 with questions.

MSCR is celebrating 100 years of fun as Madison’s public recreation department offering a wide range of recreation activities for all ages. Programs include afterschool,  arts, enrichment, camps, fitness, outdoors, sports, swimming and more. Go to mscr.org or call 608-204-3000 for more information.
