We love our staff! All MSCR Lead Assistant Directors for Inclusion Services receive specific Professional Development training geared to working with people with disabilities and towards supervising and supporting staff. We provide ongoing coaching to help grow your skills and offer opportunities to advance. We serve locations all over the city and try our best to match staff with their location preference.

During summer, MSCR offers the Summer Recreation and Enrichment Centers (SREC), which provides extended programming at the MMSD Summer Semester sites. Additionally, MSCR provides a program called Camp Compass, which provides all day childcare (7:45am-5:30pm). The Lead Inclusion AD is assigned to either one SREC or Camp Compass site depending on skillset and participant need.

Job Description & Duties: 

Description:
Students enrolled in MMSD Summer School in the morning will participate in the Summer Recreation & Enrichment Center (SREC) program at their summer school site in the afternoon. The SREC programs run from 12-4 p.m, Monday-Friday starting Monday, June 17th through Friday, July 26th. No program June 19, July 4 or July 5. Program provides lunch, afternoon snack and a variety of recreation and enrichment activities (outdoor play, games, science, art, music, drama, etc.). Each site provides programming for approximately 180 participants. Lead Inclusion ADs are a part of the site based leadership team.

Camp Compass runs from 7:45am-5:30pm Monday-Friday starting Monday, June 17 through Friday, August 9. No program July 4 or 5. Programs have the capacity for up to 60 participants from rising grades K-5. Camp Compass sites provide fun, recreational activities throughout the day. Lead Inclusion ADs are a part of the site based leadership team. There are weekly field trips throughout the summer.

Specific Inclusion Assistant Director Responsibilities:
As a Lead Inclusion Assistant Director, your primary responsibility is to support the inclusion of individuals with disabilities.  Tasks include:

  • Support Assistant Directors and other staff in supporting participants with disabilities across the program helping to create an inclusive program.
  • Advocate for individuals with disabilities to receive reasonable accommodations or modifications.
  • Coordinate schedules of Recreation Inclusion Staff (RIS) for day to day operations including field trips and planning ahead to ensure every staff and participant has what they need to be successful in changing environments. Attend field trips if specific participants need additional support.
  • Assist in the development and execution of inclusion plans which may include: reviewing education plans, conducting observations, collaboration with MMSD Summer School staff (if at your site) and parents, and input from site directors and Inclusion Services Specialists.
  • Assist with training and coaching all staff in inclusive practices and strategies; act as a resource on inclusion practices for
  • Program Leaders and/or Recreation Inclusion Staff.
  • Facilitate open communication with parents of program participants, participants, SREC staff, Summer School staff and others.
  • Coordinate Inclusion Services for individuals with disabilities across the SREC or Camp Compass program in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and MSCR’s mission/vision.

General Assistant Director Responsibilities:

  • Assistant Directors begin their day checking in with the Director to help prepare for the day. AD’s greet and check in with Program Leaders as they arrive and help them prepare for the day.
  • Work as a team with Site Director & other Assistant Site Directors to develop and oversee a summer program for elementary age children.
  • Organize special events.
  • Train, support, supervise and evaluate program staff.
  • Assist program leaders with behavior management.
  • Communicate with parents as needed.
  • Assist with programming and supply coordination and organization.
  • Advocate and communicate participant needs to Site Director and Inclusion Services Specialist.
  • End-of-day duties may include checking in with staff, families and/or the Director; clean up and prepare for the following day, conducting a staff meeting, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Location:  

Placement will be determined based upon program needs. Tentative program locations below:

WEST: SREC-Chavez, SREC- Thoreau, SREC- Olson, SREC Lincoln, Camp Compass – Anana and Camp Compass Midvale

EAST: SREC-Hawthorne, SREC- Elvehjem, SREC- Lake View, SREC- Southside, Camp Compass- Warner Park, Camp Compass Emerson and Camp Compass Mendota

    35-40 hours per week

  • Work Hours:

    Shifts are between the hours 7:45-5:30pm Monday thru Friday.

  • Pay Rate:

    $18 per hour.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Experience working in youth programs and/or inclusive recreation programs (childcare, camps, etc).
    • Competent in oral and written/email communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and recreation or educational program planning knowledge.
    • Knowledgeable about a variety of disability areas and common support strategies.
    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
    • General computer knowledge of Excel and Google applications.
    • Proven dependability, teamwork, leadership skills and enthusiasm.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs and people with disabilities with more intense support needs preferred.
    • Experience assessing for and developing support plans for individuals with disabilities.
    • CPR and First Aid certification a plus.
    • Training such as Crisis Management & Interventions, Managing Threatening Confrontations, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or the like preferred.
